Jodi is a teacher but dreams of landing a film role. She is dating a film producer and hopes for a leading part in his upcoming movie about the Boer War. However, the role is that of a Boer woman, and she is English. When she hears a real Boer woman audition for the part, she realizes her shortcomings. Determined to succeed, she travels to South Africa to study the Boers. She ends up in a small town and on Kobus’s farm. Kobus is struggling to keep the farm running and reluctantly agrees to let Jodi stay for a while. She soon becomes involved in a local amateur theatre production with the same theme as the planned film.
Perhaps not a fully cohesive film, but the slightly unusual Boer setting still makes it stand out from the crowd. It gets a four-star rating largely because of that.
