Amber, who runs an animal shelter, visits a military rehabilitation center with some of the shelter's dogs. There, she meets Caleb, who is working on rehabilitating his injured leg. A year later, Caleb is back in town after trying out a marketing job that wasn’t the right fit for him. Feeling a bit lost about what to do next, he stops by Amber’s animal shelter and asks if he can help out as a volunteer. Grateful for any help she can get, Amber immediately agrees. It doesn’t take long for Caleb to become deeply involved in the work and to bond with the dog Rex. His collaboration with Amber also leads to new insights.
The movie, and especially Eric Guilmette as Caleb, completely lacks depth and engagement. It falls rather flat, and the religious undertones certainly don’t help with the stiffness. A pity—it could have been something.
