Ethan is struggling to become a writer, but his publisher doesn't think he's ready. One day, he’s sitting in a café where Jesse works. They start talking, and it ends with him getting her phone number. They begin dating, and their romance blossoms. At the same time, Ethan's writing takes off, and a new story starts to take shape. However, there’s something Jesse isn’t telling him, and when Ethan finally proposes, she says no. But why?
In this plot, they build tension by making it seem like Jesse is dating two guys, Ethan and Troy. If you know what I’m about to reveal from the start, I think the film becomes even better. SPOILER ALERT: Everything that happens with Troy is actually what Ethan is writing about in his new book, meaning it’s not real. Jesse’s reason for hesitating is something entirely different. The film would have benefited from being upfront about this from the beginning, as her reason is serious enough. However, the movie is very good, combining romance with a feel-good vibe.
