Plot
David runs a small bookstore that is struggling. One day, his mother reveals that his father was not actually dead, as she had previously told him, but had been alive all along — though he has now truly passed away. As if that weren’t enough, his father has left him a villa in the Dominican Republic. It turns out to be worth a lot of money, and David travels there to oversee the sale. While there, he begins to learn more about his unknown father and discovers a different kind of life. The sale of the villa is handled by Maria, the daughter of the real estate agent who knew David’s father, and the process takes time. This is something David’s girlfriend back home does not accept, so she comes down as well to make sure the sale is finalized.
Short review
A very good film about gaining new perspectives and seeing your life and choices with fresh eyes. A well-portrayed story that offers a good feeling with some humor and warmth. It also feels more authentic thanks to the seamless mix of English and Spanish. (If you don't speak both languages, a subtitled version is recommended.)
