Plot

David runs a small bookstore that is struggling. One day, his mother reveals that his father was not actually dead, as she had previously told him, but had been alive all along — though he has now truly passed away. As if that weren’t enough, his father has left him a villa in the Dominican Republic. It turns out to be worth a lot of money, and David travels there to oversee the sale. While there, he begins to learn more about his unknown father and discovers a different kind of life. The sale of the villa is handled by Maria, the daughter of the real estate agent who knew David’s father, and the process takes time. This is something David’s girlfriend back home does not accept, so she comes down as well to make sure the sale is finalized.

Short review

A very good film about gaining new perspectives and seeing your life and choices with fresh eyes. A well-portrayed story that offers a good feeling with some humor and warmth. It also feels more authentic thanks to the seamless mix of English and Spanish. (If you don't speak both languages, a subtitled version is recommended.)

Short review

Slightly different romantic story as it has an "The Office" humor vibe. It very works well both as that and as a romantic movie.

Leap Year

Plot

Anna’s boyfriend, Jeremy, fails to propose as she had expected. However, she’s heard of an Irish tradition where women can propose to men on Leap Day — a day that happens to fall during their planned trip to Ireland. Determined to take matters into her own hands, Anna sets off for Dublin. But when her flight is diverted to England, she ends up on a rough journey by boat, eventually finding herself stranded in a small village in the Irish countryside. Anxious to reach Dublin in time for Leap Day and Jeremy, she reluctantly hires the local pub owner, Declan, to drive her there. What follows is a chaotic road trip — made no easier by the fact that she and Declan don’t exactly get along.

Short review

A very good romantic film with a slightly higher-budget feel. It dares to be less polished, offering a touch of clever Irish humour throughout. The story also takes its time — unlike many in the genre, it doesn’t rush the resolution, allowing the emotional payoff to land more naturally.

One of the best romantic films in this collection. It is well-made with attention to detail (with a small exception, but that's easily overlooked). It feels genuine, the acting is strong, and the plot offers some twists and allusions that elevate the experience. Definitely worth watching!

Short review

A really good movie. I have to admit that I thought this story was very questionable, but it is very well executed with good acting that really makes it believable (aside from the fact that such a future dream would not work in reality).
