Emma is a pastry chef and has just been shortlisted for a prestigious chef position in New York. Before Christmas, she goes home to her parents in Wisconsin. There, she is set to take part in a pie-baking competition, as winning would mean a great deal for her parents and their business in her hometown. Once home, her mother tells her that Mitch, whom she dated during school, has returned to town. Her mother strongly hints that she should see him. At the same time, Emma realises that her parents’ business is struggling a bit.
In terms of production quality, there’s nothing wrong with this film — but the story… Everything revolves around Emma’s parents being right that she should give up her dreams, return to the small town, and get back together with Mitch. The parents’ complete lack of understanding for Emma’s ambitions had me squirming with anger.
