Isabel works for a company tasked with checking, on Santa’s behalf, whether children have been naughty or nice. She is ambitious and highly capable, and an opportunity opens up for her to become a partner in the company. She is assigned to evaluate Charlie, the daughter of Jason. At the initial review, things don’t look very promising for Charlie, but Isabel decides to investigate more thoroughly. The assignment requires that there be no contact with the subject or their family, but Isabel accidentally runs into Jason, who becomes interested in her. At the same time, this contact gives Isabel a better understanding of Charlie. Perhaps she really does belong on the nice list after all?
The whole concept feels weak and never really takes off. You can make fairy tales about Santa and the like, but the idea of companies operating in this way is a bit too far-fetched. It doesn’t really hold up as a romantic film.
